Pismo Beach California

Tuesday, June 09, 2009

Pismo Beach is an excellent place to go on short rides. It provides both beach, chaparral, and dunes. Motor vehicles are permitted on the beach. Pismo is a popular destination for people who want to wind surf, camp, picnic, surf, or ride ATVs. There are also ATV rentals available. Traffic will be concentrated by the water. If your horse is not accustomed to flapping flags, or the surf, it may be advisable to keep your horse away from the water and traffic and stick to the trails within the chaparral areas.

Directions: From Hwy 1, take the Grand Avenue exit West toward the Ocean. From the Exit it is about 3 miles to the beach. As you approach, you will cross some rail road tracks and then the road will end as it reaches the Ocean. Just before you hit the beach, there will be a large unpaved lot on the right. There will be ample parking in the lot for your trailer. You can unload the horses and tack up in the lot, then ride your horse south across the street to the trail head. From there, you can ride up on to the beach which will be in sight, or you can continue south on the trails.
